MJ159 is a portable, self-contained insulation resistance tester designed for rapid and accurate measurements in general purpose electrical testing applications. It features an analog display with four selectable test voltages of 100, 250, 500, and 1000 Vdc, measuring insulation resistance from 0.1O to 2000 MO with an ohm range up to 5000 O. Power is derived from a low-voltage, hand-cranked brushless AC generator operating between 130 rpm and 170 rpm, connected to an electronic inverter for stable test voltage output. The instrument includes a guard terminal to eliminate surface leakage current and a safety voltage check feature for AC voltages up to 600 V. Common applications include testing electrical installations, equipment, aircraft systems, and telecommunications equipment, providing reliable insulation testing without the need for external power sources.
