The 80099173 is a high-efficiency switching regulator from the R-78HBxx-0.5 series, serving as a drop-in replacement for traditional 78xx linear regulators. It operates over a wide input voltage range of up to 72VDC and achieves an efficiency of up to 96%, which eliminates the need for heatsinks. The device provides a fully protected output with features like continuous short circuit protection, thermal shutdown, and low ripple and noise, typically 20mVp-p.
