Master Electronics Celebrates 50 Years in Business

February 07, 2017

Santa Monica, CA (February 6, 2017)

Ike Nizam founded Master Electronics in 1967 from a small apartment in Santa Monica, California.  Fifty years later, Ike still works at Master’s headquarters, just blocks away from the apartment where he started it all.  From the cramped 750-square foot apartment to amassing 750,000-square feet of office and warehouse space, Master enjoys over 300 employees in 12 locations.  Originally a regional distributor, Ike decided to focus on stocking relay products with a commitment to flexibility and breadth and depth of inventory.  While the industry landscape shifted many times over the past half century, Master found its niche servicing small to medium sized customers, stocking hard to find parts as well as offering customers great service.

In addition to organic growth, Master has made many successful acquisitions; most notably its purchase of All American Semiconductor in 2007 and Electro Sonic in 2014. Today, Master partners with over 250 suppliers servicing hundreds of thousands of customers across the globe.  Considered to be one of the last true IP&E distributors, Master Electronics remains dedicated to Ike’s original focus stocking breadth and depth of part numbers.

As a flourishing authorized distributor, Master Electronics stocks over 350,000+ unique part numbers available for immediate shipment, with over 3 million additional part numbers available for sale. Master’s diverse customer base relies on the company as a reputable source for a range of products including relays, connectors, power supplies, fans, switches, circuit protection devices, passive components, fuses, filters and more.  Serving many markets, including industrial, military, medical, aerospace, and consumer, Master Electronics boasts a knowledgeable and flexible team that puts the customer first.

To their suppliers, Master is known as a dependable and nimble company.  Collaborating closely with and solving problems for suppliers has earned Master Electronics many prestigious awards from TE Connectivity, C&K Components, ebm-papst, Honeywell, ITT Cannon, Omron Electronics, Panasonic, and others.  Aware of the honors bestowed on them by their supplier partners, and the expectations that go with those accolades, Master continues their commitment as it looks forward to the next 50. The team at Master feels they are just getting started in delivering unique value to its customers and supplier partners.

About Ike Nizam, Master Electronics Founder

Ike started attending business meetings with his father at the tender age of 8 years old.  Still in his teens, Ike moved to the United States to attend college.  While attending ESL (English as a Second Language) school, working days as a dishwasher and nights as a hotel front-desk clerk, Ike also attended Napa Junior College.   Accepting a scholarship, Ike transferred to Portland State University and graduated with a degree in business.  Just three weeks after graduation, knowing little about electronics, Ike joined Syracuse Electronics.  Ike recalls selling controllers of all kinds; timing, motion, liquid level, and temperature controls.  During Ike’s first summer in Syracuse, he bought himself a classic MGB British sports car.   During the next Syracuse winter, Ike woke to find the overnight snowfall had completely buried his car.  Ike quit his job and moved to sunny Santa Monica, California.

In 1966 Ike started a rep firm and a year later switched to become a distributor founding Master. For the past 50 years, Ike Nizam has built Master Electronics into the company it is today -  a family business built on the core values, “We Care, We Are Dedicated & Loyal, We are Entrepreneurial, We Embrace Visionary Thinking.”
